K-12 schools, colleges and graduate programs use many different kinds of tests to help identify the individual learning strengths or weaknesses of students, assess instructional programs, and fairly determine required accountability data and aid in the admissions process.  Educational test publishers are dedicated to promoting and advancing the role of assessment as an integral part of the educational process.
